Margarita Houston: A Life Dedicated to Building Hearts with Purpose

“The wise woman builds her house, but with her own hands the foolish one tears hers down.” (Proverbs 14:1)

This verse has not only been a guiding motto, but the very heart of the life and ministry of Margarita Houston—a Colombian woman who, from The Woodlands, Texas, has spent more than three decades transforming lives through teaching, discipleship, and a deep love for the Word of God.

From Bogotá to the World: A Calling to Serve

Born in Bogotá, Colombia, into a family of five siblings, Margarita grew up in a home where faith and family were foundational pillars. Her academic journey began at Gimnasio Femenino, a traditional girls’ school where a deep devotion was planted in her heart. She later earned a degree in Financial Administration from Politécnico Grancolombiano.

It was in Colombia that she met the love of her life, Richard Houston—an American missionary who was advising churches throughout Latin America.“We met in the context of his mission work, and after two years of friendship, we decided to unite our lives forever.”

Today, after 32 years of marriage, they have four children, five grandchildren, and one granddaughter on the way.

“Our marriage has been a ministry—a mission team.”

For ten years, Margarita and Richard served on the pastoral team of a church in Bogotá. She led the women’s ministry, while he taught and trained leaders. Twenty-three years ago, they moved to The Woodlands, Texas, to continue their mission under the organization TMSGlobal.

The Art of Being a Woman: A Ministry That Has Reached Over 400 Women

Twenty years ago, Margarita founded The Art of Being a Woman, a ministry within The Woodlands Methodist Church, where she has taught the Bible in Spanish to more than 400 women.

“I am convinced that women can either build or destroy. God has given us great responsibility and influence within our families and society.”

Through this ministry, Margarita has discipled women, equipping them to lead and teach, while fostering a community marked by support, love, and spiritual growth.

Sentido a Tu Vida: An International Ministry Answering Life’s Deepest Questions

Together with her husband, Margarita co-founded Sentido a Tu Vida (Meaning for Your Life), an apologetics and friendship-evangelism ministry that has trained believers in more than ten countries, including Colombia, Peru, Cuba, Guatemala, Switzerland, and Mexico.

“Everyone is searching for meaning in life. Our purpose is to help people find answers through a practical and authentic faith.”

They have published 12 books in both digital and print formats, as well as six free online courses available through their website: www.sentidoatuvida.org.

“We want knowledge to be accessible to everyone. Truth transforms.”

A Heart Like Jesus: Daily Devotional and Inspiring Podcast

Margarita is the author of the devotional A Heart Like Jesus, a 360-day journey that has reached thousands of women in both Spanish and English.

“I teach how to pray, how to read the Bible, and how to develop a peaceful heart filled with the Holy Spirit.”

She also hosts a daily podcast available on Spotify, where each episode offers a moment of reflection and spiritual connection.

“Just search on Spotify: Margarita Houston – A Heart Like Jesus, and choose the day you want to listen.”

Family: Her First Ministry

Margarita is surrounded by love. Three of her four children live in the The Woodlands area along with her grandchildren.

“I cherish every moment as a grandmother. My home is full of flowers, meaningful details, and memories. Family is our first ministry.”

She fondly recalls family gatherings at her grandmother’s countryside home in Villeta, Colombia, where she learned the value of creating simple yet profound memories.

“Family legacy is something we must protect and pass on. It’s not about material things, but about values, time, and love.”

A Message to Today’s Women

Margarita has a clear message for women at every stage of life:

  • To girls and teenagers:“Teach them identity—help them know who they are in God before seeking validation on social media.”

  • To young married women:“Guard your heart. Your marriage is a team, but you also need to care for yourself emotionally and spiritually.”

  • To mothers and grandmothers:“Our influence is powerful. Let us build with wisdom and love—not through criticism, but through example.”

“Jesus was inclusive. That’s how we should be—creating spaces where all women feel welcomed, valued, and heard.”

Margarita Houston is living proof that when a woman chooses to build, her impact transcends generations.
