Experts in nutrition and fitness. A living example of how to stay healthy after 50.
Muscle mass defines healthy aging
We don’t pursue aesthetics, but real functional health
Cardio alone is not enough because it does not change metabolism
By Patricia Contreras
From the womb, Elena and Adriana Cochesa began their lives together. This is not a metaphor: they are identical twins, with a level of similarity so precisely even in their dental structure — that it became the subject of a university study in forensic medicine.
“Many people think it’s artificial intelligence or a mirror,” Elena laughs during her interview on the Sin Libreto by WoodlandStories podcast. “But no. It’s my sister.”
Their story — as symmetrical as it is powerful — draws attention not only because of their appearance but also because of the journey that has made them recognized leaders in health, nutrition, and fitness for men and women of all ages.
A blend of cultures that shaped their identity
Daughters of a European father — born in the former Yugoslavia, now Croatia — and a Venezuelan mother from Mérida, granddaughter of Italian immigrants, the Cochesa sisters grew up with a multicultural identity that even reflected in their appearance: blonde hair, light eyes, and features uncommon in Maracaibo, Venezuela.
“Back home we were always ‘the blonde twins,’” they recall. In the United States, however, they are often mistaken for Russian or German.
That cultural blend also shaped their character: European discipline, Latin warmth, and a strong family work ethic.
From motorsports to veterinary science
Their father, Juan Cochesa — known as “El Águila del Zulia” — was a professional race car driver in Venezuela. After leaving the track, he founded one of the most important bovine artificial insemination centers in western Venezuela, a business that continues to operate today.
That environment shaped their academic path. Both graduated as veterinary doctors, a career that gave them a solid foundation in physiology, biochemistry, metabolism, and the body’s integrated functioning.
“The human body’s systems work the same way as in animals — nervous, circulatory, respiratory. That scientific foundation gave us a huge advantage,” explains Elena.
For years, they practiced in the livestock industry until insecurity in Venezuela — kidnappings and constant threats — forced them to stop fieldwork.
And there, unknowingly, their reinvention began.
Before fitness became a trend
Long before Instagram and viral workouts, Adriana and Elena trained with discipline, read specialized magazines, and studied sports nutrition. Not as a trend, but out of conviction.
“Exercise has always been part of our lives,” they affirm.
They trained for themselves, not for business.
But at the gyms, questions began to arise:What do you eat?How do you train? Can you help us?
Until a friend asked the question that changed everything:
“Why don’t you turn this into a professional service?”
Education before improvisation
Far from improvising, Elena and Adriana formally enrolled in the Zulia State School of Nutrition in 2012 and became certified in:
Sports nutrition
Obesity
Diabetes
Metabolic diseases
That was when Hermanas Cochesa was born — not as an aesthetic project, but as a comprehensive health service.
And here they make a fundamental clarification:
“We are not personal trainers. We are specialists in health, nutrition, and fitness.”
Their work is not about generic routines, but rather:
Clinical analysis
Medical history review
Metabolic evaluation
Personalized plans based on age, lifestyle, and goals
Competing at 40… when others think it’s too late
Contrary to popular belief, Elena and Adriana did not compete in bodybuilding at a young age.
They did so at 40 — already married, with children and responsibilities.
“Before, it wasn’t the right time. Motherhood requires discipline and order. When the children grew up, we were able to do it.”
That process was not about trophies but proving something powerful: age is not the limit — lack of strategy is.
Today, at over 50, they are living examples of:
Active muscle mass
Functional metabolism
Energy
Strength
Real and healthy beauty
Muscle: the key to female longevity
One of the Cochesa sisters’ most powerful messages is clear: muscle mass is not an aesthetic issue, but the true engine of daily energy, functional youth, and a full quality of life.
Maintaining active muscle allows women to preserve strength, independence, and vitality over time — especially after 30 years of age.
They explain that cardio alone is not enough. Zumba, cycling, dancing, and aerobics help the heart, but do not change metabolism.
“Muscle is what burns fat even at rest. Without strength, there is no transformation,” says Elena.
That is why their approach focuses on:
Strength training
Strategic nutrition
Adequate protein intake
Nutritional education
“We’re not looking for big bodies, but firm, functional, and strong bodies.”
No diets: nutritional education
One of their strongest principles is eliminating the word diet.
“Diet creates fear and a sense of punishment. We teach people how to eat.”
They do not forbid foods — they control frequency, quantity, and context.
“A Venezuelan won’t give up her arepa, a Colombian her empanada, or a Mexican her tortilla. The problem isn’t eating them — it’s eating them without structure.”
Their method is based on real education:
Learning to read labels
Understanding portions
Distributing meals properly
Adapting nutrition to work and family life
The goal is clear: to empower people to walk independently for the rest of their lives.
HC Protein: a solution born from experience
The HC Whey Protein brand was created out of personal necessity. Elena could not tolerate any protein on the market. Inflammation, digestive discomfort, and low biological value led her to develop her own product.
After years of development, they now offer a protein with:
A single ingredient
High-quality raw material
Formulated in FDA-certified laboratories
Designed for people with digestive sensitivity
“Many brands reduce costs by sacrificing quality. We did the opposite.”
Entrepreneurs, leaders, and a Latino example in the U.S.
Today, Hermanas Cochesa is a solid company, legally established in the U.S., with:
An automated digital platform
Mandatory medical history intake
Personalized consultations
A professional team behind every plan
They serve clients in the U.S., Canada, Europe, and Latin America.
And they represent a powerful message for the Hispanic community:
reinvention is possible — even after 40 and 50.
Health is not aesthetics: it is independent
For them, the true goal is not to look good but living better.
“Health determines whether you will be independent at 65 or dependent on medication,” Elena says.
Many of their clients have reversed:
Fatty liver
Insulin resistance
Thyroid imbalances
High cholesterol and triglycerides
Simply by correcting habits. Because, as they firmly repeat:
It is better to invest in nutrition today than in medical treatments tomorrow.
A final message
The Cochesa sisters do not work with quick promises or generic formulas. Their approach is based on science, education, and strategy, with the goal of building real, sustainable health over time.
They are living proof that:
Age is not the limit
Long-term health matters
Muscles are healthy
Longevity is built every day
